Different Uses of Rugs

There are other great ways in which Area Rugs can be used in every room of your home! Of course, they are the perfect solution to covering unsightly stains and spills on carpets and flooring, however they have more versatile uses than purely to cover stains. As you step through your front door a rug is a great way to add both texture and colour to your hallway. A floor runner is basically a long narrow rug which fits perfectly into these types of hallways!

The lounge, front room or sitting room, which ever you refer to your main seating area as, often has a rug which as people’s reactions have shown are placed in front of the fire. These are often semi-circular so that they fit closely to the fire hearth, and as the positioning suggests were referred to as Hearth Rugs! Their point was to protect the flooring from any soot or spitting embers from ruining the flooring, as it was far easier to replace the rug than the entire flooring. They were also positioned in front of the fire so that people could keep their feet warm by the fire.

In other countries like China, For the wealthy Chinese, Rugs was a great way to openly display wealth and world wide adventures. For the poor or Cheap Rugs were often made from strips of old fabrics which were plaited together or strips of fabric pulled through Hessian bags which had been opened up. Both of these were often known as ‘rag rugs’ as they were made from rags of old clothing. Nowadays the trend of re-cycling has seen a revival in these styles of rugs, with modern designers using old leather belts, men’s ties and strips of old denim jeans to re-create rag rugs with a modern twist.
